Search Engine Strategies

SEO or Search Engine Optimization helps in the positioning of websites on the Internet. Search engine optimization has in fact, revolutionized the online marketing process. New Search engine strategies are constantly being evolved for generating free traffic to your website. According to the research about 90% of traffic to a website is diversified through Search Engine Optimization.

Some of the effective principles implemented by the best sites are as follows:

Unique Content should be presented on the web. It should be unique in its quality, in terms of depth and presentation.

  1. There should be accessibility to an adoptive online community which is ready to accept, visit and promote the services offered by you.
  2. Links are indeed one of the most chief sources generating traffic and increasing the PR of the website. The best content will also not be linked if it displays ads and shows pop-up when someone visits the website.
  3. Proper systems for monetizing of the powerful content must be taken into consideration otherwise hosting, bandwidth and development costs will overrun the budget.
  4. When you are aiming at highly competitive terms an online marketing budget must be effective. You can seek help from the expert consultant who will mention the ways of bringing newer sites to the top of the SERPs.

The following are the methods of tracking of visitors of the websites:

  • Campaign Tracking – The seo experts should be capable enough to put specific URLs or referral URLs on the ads, emails and track the success of the websites.
  • Action Tracking – There are also methods to track actions on the website like newsletter signups, form submission and add to cart buttons. This will help you to keep a record of ads, links, terms, and campaigns that are bringing you the potential visitors.
  • Referring URLs & Domain Tracking - This gives you the opportunity to see what URLs and domains are responsible for sending the traffic to your website. This will help you to understand where from the valuable links are coming.
  • First-Time vs. Return Visitors – To find out how interesting and presentable your website is, keep a track of the percentage of the visitors who are returning to your site every day, week and month.
  • Page Views per Session - This data will help you to keep a record of how many pages each visitor of your website is viewing.
  • Google Analytics - This tool provides an in depth analysis of your website or blog. You can check visitor sources, traffic volume, areas across the worldwide, top landing pages, top exit pages and many more.

Different people have their own unique ways or strategies of optimizing a website or blog. I have my own. Most of these secrets are kept secrets, the better you guess the algorithm of the search engines the better you are as a Seo Expert.

Affordable SEO Services, Affordable SEO Plan India

Affordable SEO Services

SEO Services encompasses a lot of things. But it may so arise that there are companies or webmasters who want to optimize their site but for a low cost, in short they are looking for affordable SEO services. Affordable SEO services include optimization of site, blog or forum for a small amount. Generally, freelancers or Seo Consultants take the task of seo service for mini sites for an amount that will suit most webmasters budget. The seo professionals of the company will offer you the real value of our money. But you need to be choosy enough to understand that you can’t simply hand over your site to anybody. The person has to qualify as a seo expert along with experience to handle your task.

To me these are the basic services for your website that I generally provide to my clients.

Basic Optimization – This includes placing the proper Meta tags for the individual pages of your site along with fixing anchor text. The design and the professional approach is also looked after apart from some of the basic coding structure.

Content Creation - Content forms one of the prime focuses of the website. The SEO companies will offer you professionally written content maintaining proper keyword density and order of the key phrases. This also includes Article writing and Press Release writing.

Restructuring of the Web site- As a part of the SEO services we perform the standard coding techniques for optimizing your website for the algorithms of search engines. The experts will be able to create clean HTML codes for the website, set up a better navigation panel, fix the sitemap, and create RSS feeds.

Linking and submission- This is yet another feature offered by most of the seo companies. The Search engine optimizers submit the website to the relevant general and niche directories. They will also logically expand the link base.

All these services will cater to your budget. However, there are certain companies who will implement unauthentic policies and ways to rank you for sometime which will not hold well in the long run. I specifically prefer Whitehat Seo Techniques that will ensure my clients better Return on Investment (ROI) both in the short run as well as in the long run. I have seen many companies implementing BlachHat Techniques for their client site like keyword stuffing or spamming the search engines. The companies often place “hidden text” which is written in same color as the background of the page. These methods might fetch you high page rank in the major search engines but you might be reprimanded within no time.

So, it is always better to check the credentials of the company or the freelancers before approaching them for seo service.

Google takeover of DoubleClick

Google Finalizes $3.1 Bln Takeover Of DoubleClick - Update [GOOG]

The acquisition of online advertising technology company named DoubleClick is the

biggest takeover of Google in the nine-year history. It was announced after the European Commission cleared the $3.1 billion acquisition. The acquisition was approved in December by U.S. Federal Trade Commission.

According to the Google’s Chief Executive Eric Schmidt, DoubleClick provides display ad platform that will allow Google to introduce new technology and infrastructure that will enhance the performance of digital media.

The competitors of Google like Microsoft and Yahoo were against the deal since this acquisition would impart Google more power over the$40.9 billion online ad market.

Critics were of the opinion that this venture of Google would raise cost of ad serving for competitors. They also claimed that it would increase the market position of Google in the search advertising. Google would require the purchasers of the search ad space to purchase the DoubleClick’s tools.

It was founded by the European Commission that the merging would not lead to the marginalization of the potential competitors of Google since they offered credible alternatives for placing online ads on the sites.

The Commission believed that the effect of competition on the online intermediation advertising services market.

The California-based Google named Mountain View is the pioneer in the internet search and offers space for online advertising on its own sites. The company earns revenue by offering intermediation services to the advertisers and publishers by selling online advertising space on partner websites through “AdSense”.

4th UPDATE: AOL To Acquire Social Network Bebo For $850 Million

AOL has decided to takeover social network Bebo for $850 million since the troubled Time Warner Inc unit continues to refurbish in the advertising-focused business.

This is a huge leap for AOL from the Internet-access gateway to the online advertising giant along with the ranks of Google Inc and Yahoo Inc. This deal has been due to the ad-sales growth slowing down.

This transaction may stop rumors like AOL is following the deal with Yahoo. The investors are of the opinion that the Time Warner may sell it off.

The Chief Executive Randy Falco believes that if the acquisitions made by AOL prove to be fruitful is what they are expecting. The Bebo deal is roughly about $ 1 billion of the AOL acquisitions. Bebo is not so popular in comparison to Facebook and MySpace in US.

The price tag is the fraction of the Time Warner's more than $46 billion in revenue of the year 2007. According to the research, the down session for stock markets, Time Warner shares recently traded at $14.46, down 2% on the day and earlier stock price hit a 52-week low of $14.22.

The acquisition of Bebo may speed up the slow growth of AOL. It is difficult to earn money from the social networking sites.

The chief operating officer of AOL is of the opinion that the problem lies in trying search advertising to the social networks. AOL is planning to include graphical display ads onto the Bebo’s pages. There is also an objective to link Bebo with AOL’s instant messaging services. There was a rumor that Yahoo and Microsoft were planning to pursue investment or other deal for the Bebo.

According to Balderton Capital which is a European capital firm is the owner of 15.7% stake of Bebo, its profits from the AOL sale is $140 million.

How will this affect Google? Many webmasters and seo consultant have already started talking about this.

Getting pages indexed by Google

Posted on 06:27 by Unknown

How to be more effective in SEO for Google

The webmasters are worried about why all the pages of the website are not indexed. There is no definite answer. However, few things are definite.

The forums, blogs and the own guidelines of Google in order to increase the number of pages indexed by Google were surveyed. The best guesses were recorded. It was found that the webmaster should not expect that all the pages will be crawled and indexed. However there are methods by which the number can be increased.

PageRank

PageRank is one of the most important one. The position of the page rank depends upon the number of pages that are indexed. Every webpage has its own PageRank. The high PageRank offers the Googlebot reasons to return. According to Matt Cutts a higher PageRank means a deeper crawl.

Links

Googlebot needs something to follow. Links from a website of high PageRank are best since the trust is already instilled.

The internal links are helpful. Relevant links must be placed at the homepage from the other important pages. On the content webpages link to several relevant content on other webpages must be placed.

Sitemap

People are of the opinion that a well-structured Sitemap must definitely help to get all of the pages indexed. According to the guidelines of Google's Webmaster submission of Sitemap is also effective.

One must tell all about the web pages by submitting a Sitemap file; one should help them learn which web pages are important and how frequently the web pages change.

There are other key facts for improving crawlability. These techniques are like validating robots.txt.s and fixing violations.

There are also recommendations of creating Sitemap for each of the particular categories or section of the website.

Speed

According to the recent report of O'Reilly the easiness with which Googlebot crawls a page and the time of the page load may influence the number of pages that are indexed. The logic behind is that the faster the Googlebot crawls, the more number of pages will be indexed.

This will also include simplifying navigation or the structures of the website. The spiders often face difficulty with Ajax and Flash. In these cases text version must be added.

Google's crawl caching proxy

The diagram of Matt Cutts provides shows the way the Google's crawl caching proxy at the blog of Matt Cutts. It was the part of the Big Daddy hat is updated in order to make the search engine more effective. Among the three any one of the three indexes may crawl a site and as a result send the information to the remote server. It is then accessed by the rest of the indexes such as the blog index or the AdSense index as an alternative of the bots for those indexes that are physically visiting your website. They can all use the mirror as an alternative.

Verify

It is necessary to verify the website with the Google with the help of the Webmaster tools.

Content, content, content

The content must be original. When there is the copy of another page, the Googlebot may skip them easily. Frequent update of the content is necessary. When the pages have older timestamp, it must be viewed as outdated, static, or already indexed.

Staggered launch

Launching a huge number of pages at once could lead to spam signals. It is suggested that a webmaster can launch a maximum of 5,000 pages every week. .

Size matters

If you are thinking that the tens of millions of pages are indexed then the site will have to be on Microsoft.com or Amazon.com level.

Know how the website is found, and tell Google

It is necessary to find out the top queries that may lead to a particular website. One should remember that the anchor text helps in links. One can use the Google's tools to find out which of the pages are indexed If there are certain violations one can specify the preferred domain so that the Google is aware of what to index.

HTML and SEO

Posted on 06:25 by Unknown

One should not forget to overlook the fundamentals of the good page and the structure of the site— building the pages so that they are both user-friendly and search engine friendly. This will not only ensure proper seo for your site but also enable your visitors to navigate properly.

The most important things to remember:

The search engines are in need of the content. The content is the major source of business and revenue for the search engines. But if (a.) the website cannot be traversed by text-reading and automated spiders, and/or (b.) The pages are not provided with the distinguishing features. A barrier must be put in order to find the impact of the ability of spiders for the purpose of indexing the content as well as the site.

Few details about page and site structure:

1. There must be a unique HTML TITLE: There is a necessity of using a descriptive title that precisely describes the content of that page. It also provides proper context to the browsers who first sees the title on Google as well as the other search results. For instance, if it is a political commentary site, including yet another political article about President Bush in the site. The existing viewers might not notice the title. One must make sure that the title provides a proper summary of the content. The title must give some idea to the browsers scanning Google search results. Google can conveniently index as well as catalogue the content. It would help to find better matches between the pages and the search pages of the users.

2. Every Page must have a unique summary of the content which is described in the META description tag.

The search engine will definitely try to find out the summary if the description of the page is missing. The search engines will function in two different ways:

If the META description tag is not provided, but the content is properly displayed then the search engines will find out the topic of the page. They will pick up a bit of text from the paragraph or the sentence which is most relevant to the content. However, computers rarely find the topic correctly.

It is difficult to find out the topic of the page since there is no description. Search engines will definitely find out if the site has the DMOZ listing and it will pick up the summary of the website that is offered by the human editors. It is best to write few sentences and place them in the META DESCRIPTION tag.

META descriptions will appear as the "teaser" text that will be visible under the links to the pages or articles or pages on Google as well as on the other engines' search results pages. One must be sure that the description is enough to describe the page. The description must offer a brief idea about the content to the visitors who are not on that particular website or those who are not provided with any other context with which another page or article can be associated.

When the link to one of the webpages emerge on search results of one of the main search engines one must make sure that the title as well as the description are interesting and accurate. It should be accurate and important in such a way that the link should look better than at least 20 on that results page the browser is looking at.

Note: It is advisable not to give titles and descriptions which are not relevant to the content on the webpage. This is one of the mistake due to which the website can be banned from the important search engines.

3. Usage of good old HTML hierarchical conventions. The H1 tag should be first, main visible title. It should be followed by the normal paragraph text. H1, H3 and a lot more must be required for the subheaders.

4. META KEYWORDS tags should be removed. The search engines have ignored them for long period of time. KEYWORDS tags do not have any important role in adding to the do favourable scores with search engines. However, it is used as the factor of the negative ratings. It is ideal to remove them as well as be safe.

5. Dynamic drop-down menus, fancy Flash animations and javascript or form-based navigation cannot be crawled by the spiders as a result the links and the content would not be read or found by search engines.

Search engines usually only follow text (or standard HREF) links, and do not have a tendency to read inside of javascripts or DHTML menu scripts. CSS visible/hidden based menus can be used which are capable of loading all links and texts into source code where it can be conveniently read by spiders. It is also advisable to add a "Site Map" link into the webpage header and footer. This easily links to a webpage where one can have simple HTML HREF links to the single page on the website.

6. "Site Map" must be provided – It must be provided wither in the Google's XML format or in the own format), so Google and others can conveniently find all pages on the website. However, this is not a guarantee of indexing since if Google as well as other cannot find the topic or the descriptions of the webpages they will not catalog or index the page.

7. Dynamic URLs will not cause any problem for any search engine -- **UNLESS** (a.) The URLs and site are designed in the way the links might lead to a “spider-traps” for crawlers. (often the search engine spiders are caught by the infinite looping of the links within the website-like the calendar links that may lead to infinite number of future and past months – in the case the site will simply be abandoned), or

(b.) The dynamic URLs when added (such as session or IDs datestamps) would cause a problem of duplicate content (in this case the same page is reachable through the separate URLs).

These features will enable your site to be Search Engine Friendly and thus easier for you to do seo on your site.

17) Speaking of offline efforts: While being quoted in a magazine or other publication, one should remember to use the URL as it is appropriate to the topic.

18) One can also opt for a store on eBay? It has huge amount of traffic and on the sales page one can list the URL. This will provide inbound link.

19) Loading a video on the YouTube and 57 other video sites for driving a huge traffic.

20) Another strategy is allowing the browsers an opportunity to sign up for the newsletter and the RSS feed on the blog. Getting the email address of the users will be helpful indeed. Visitors visiting for the first time generally do not buy but marketing strategies must be implemented to effectively help the browsers.

An email newsletter is a perfect example. An informative newsletter will act as a potent marketing tool. Blog will also help the browsers to remain in the marketing loop. One must be aware of how many people are visiting the website. This will help to estimate before and the after view of the marketing efforts.

Subdomains Vs. Subdirectories for SEO

Subdomain vs Subdirectories

It has been revealed by Matt Cutts that in recent times Google is treating subdomains like the subdirectories of a domain, they hope to limit the number of results that are shown for the given keyword search from the particular website. Previously few of the search marketers tried to use keyworded subdomains for the purpose of promoting search referral traffic from the search engines in the process
deploying out a number of keyword subdomains for the conditions for which they expected to rank well.

An article was written about how few of the local directory sites employing the subdomains for the purpose of achieving proper ranking results in the search engines. According to the article the websites were ranking well and this is not due to the presence of keyword as the subdomain. Some of the examples have been shown of sites that ranked well or even better in few of the cases where the keyword was among the Uniform Resource Indent as opposing the subdomain. In Google, subdirectories and the subdomains were functioning for keyword ranking optimization.

A number of sites that possessed different degrees of quality in their subdomaining strategies have been found. If there are subdomains then you must make sure that these include primarily unique content which are reflected on the other domains. It is important to see that the subdomain must contain page content which is not present on the other subdomains since this might lead to spamming of the search engine indices.

Googles Webmaster Guidelines are provided for the particular subject:

There is no necessity of creating subdomains, multiple pages with significantly duplicate content.

A number of large corporate websites have few of the accidental duplicate content, however if you install dozens and hundreds of subdomains with the dupe texts may project that you are attempting to spam the search engines “don’t do it.

If you are looking for the method of structuring the URLs as well as the site content for the purpose of natural search marketing, it is best to use a format of keyword directories and subdirectories instead of the subdomains. It is convenient to manage, and it appears far more natural and reasonable from the perspective of the search engines. There is very less chance of duplicating the content.

A number of major websites host a number of site applications and sections on the subdomains as well as the external providers sending the content on the different servers. However, it is pretty convenient to assign the subdomain to the third party that is providing the service for you. So long there is no duplication of the content of the pages on subdomains there is no problem.

People have enquired several times which is better subdirectory or the subdomain.

For this purpose a different top-level domains (TLDs) are preferred as it provides the opportunity to send a signal to search engines that the content is meant for the different countries. For instance, the French language pages could be delivered on the .FR domains like the www.example.fr

If you are not interested to use the TLDs for the pages of alternate language, there is no need to worry excessively for using the different subdomains versus directory/subdirectories. It is said that the french.example.com will probably function well as www.example.com/french. It is believed that the translated versions of the webpages are not considered to be the duplicate content since they include a number of various texts. The information might be duplicate but not the text content. The pages in the two separate languages may not come for the same keyword search.

TLDs are recommended for the foreign language pages to get best performance. However you can use the convenient methods. Check out before implementing as to which one of these will help you in the long run of your business in terms of traffic to you website through seo.

SEO FAQ's | SEO Tips

Posted on 02:10 by Unknown

Website Structure FAQ

Do we build a site based on a flat architecture or a vertical architecture?

My answers would be simple. Consider this example will you as a user find it easy to navigate through the Fig 1 or Fig 2.

Websites that are build on flat architectures helps search engine crawlers to crawl large amount of pages rather than crawling for pages that needs to travel through many clicks. Each time a crawler faces click barriers it reduces the amount of content to be taken from each page link. Deep linking pages take much time to get their content indexed by search engine bots and thus take time to rank. My preference is (remaining everything is conducive) to make a flat structure website. The reason would be

  1. Fast crawl rate to enable more content per page.
  2. Crawlers would be able to detect new pages and updated content easily.
  3. Fewer pages would restrict the flow of PageRank and the resultant effect would be to sustain ranking for niche keywords.

Five most important things in html for a site

  1. The Title Tag
  2. The Meta Description
  3. Robots Meta Tag
  4. Anchor Text
  5. ALT Attribute

What is the difference between local link popularity and global link popularity?

Local link popularity refers to links from sites in a specific topical neighborhood (as identified by algorithms such as Teoma - now used by Ask.com), while global link popularity doesn't discriminate and counts all links from any site on the web.

How do search engines treat content inside an IFrame?

The engines all interpret content in an embedded IFrame as belonging to a separate document from the page displaying the IFrame content. Thus links and content inside IFrames refer to the page they come from, rather than the page they are placed on. For SEO, one of the biggest implications of this is that links inside an IFrame are interpreted as internal links (coming from the site the IFrame content is on) rather than external links (coming from the site embedding the IFrame).

Name twelve unique metrics search engines are suspected to consider when weighting links and how each affects rankings positively or negatively

There are dozens of answers to this question, but some of the most relevant and important would be:

  • Anchor text (when it matches queries, it can have a significant positive impact)
  • Placement on the page (MSN's research here describes how it may influence rankings)
  • PageRank of the linking page (more PR = more good)
  • Trust in the linking domain (more trust = ++)
  • Link structure in HTML (inside an image, javascript, standard a href, etc.) - although Javascript links are sometimes followed, they appear to provide only a fraction of the link weight that normal links grant. Likewise, links from images (and anchor text in the form of alt text) appears to provide somewhat less weight than standard HTML links.
  • Temporal nature of the link (when it appeared, how long it stays on the page for, etc.) - can affect how much weight the link is given and be used to identify patterns that may indicate manipulation
  • Use of nofollow
  • Relevance of page content to linked-to page (more relevant = better)
  • Relevance of site to linked-to page (more relevance = better)
  • Text surrounding the link (as the two above)
  • Previous link relationships between the domains (if the page/site has already linked to the page/site in the past, it may be given less weight and this may also be used to identify and discount reciprocal linking schemes)
  • Hosting relationships (if the domains are hosted on the same IP address, or same c-block of IP addresses, the link may lose some of its weight)
  • Registration relationships (if the domains share registration information, it may be interpreted as less editorial and given less weight)

Posted on 02:53 by Unknown

What is web 2.0?

Web 2.0 is a concept which refers to the second generation of web based service- like social platform (MySpace, Friendster), communication tools, wikis and folksonomies etc. It was coined by O’Reilly that refers to a new generation of websites. During surfing the web, these programs help people to communicate and share information with each other online that was not possible in web 1.0 because it was ‘read-only’ web, whereas web 2.0 is extended into ‘read-write’ web.

Google, Amazon, etc. are some examples of web 2.0.

Link Building Factors

Posted on 01:57 by Unknown

Link Building Factors:

  • Number 1: The traditional mutual linking between sites. This process is termed as two-way linking. However the SEO’s are of the opinion that this strategy of link building has been diminished by Goggle. There is also a belief that the better strategy of building links with sites of relevant content.

  • Number 2: The three-way link also known as Triangular linking is the method of linking the site A and site B for a link back from another site. It is a much developed and modern strategy of link building than the two-way method. The Two-way linking is not in practice since they seem to be similar to the one-way linking to Google. However there are Search Engine optimizers who are of the opinion that the Google identifies three-way linking and there is often the risk of penalties.

  • Number 3: This is the three-way link method. The SEO offers a link from the site of the SEO or from a different site instead of a link from the site A. The benefit of this type of link building is that there is no need of the outbound links in case of the site A. However the SEO’s are of the opinion that site A might be have to suffer penalties from Google.

  • Number 4: The four-way linking is favored by few webmasters. They have the same advantages and disadvantages like the number two and number three methods as discussed above.

  • Number 5: Article links: The SEO will provide an informative article with links displayed in the middle or at the end of the article. These articles are provided to the webmasters free of cost as content for their sites in return of the link in the site of the client. There is a belief that the publication of the article on different sites might result into some problem since it has the duplicate content and the links of the articles are also similar. A number of these articles are submitted to “article farms”. It is advisable to offer unique articles on the webmaster but producing many of the unique articles is often expensive.

  • Number 6: One-way link is also considered to be effective by few of the SEO’s. Even though these one way links come from the sites having low page rank these are considered to be effective. However SEO’s are of the opinion that one-way link from FFA’s and the directories are considered to be spam by Google. It is essential to find out related sites in order to avoid being marked as spam by Google. However, this method seldom works.

  • Number 7: Buying Links - SEO’s prefer buying links with text links along with keywords. It is stated in the guidelines for webmasters that Google does not support buying of links. There is also a method of reporting against the sites that buy links. Few of the SEO’s think that Google creates this fear among people so that people buy Adwords instead of advertising somewhere else. The SEO’s also believe that buying banner ads is better than text links since Google cannot consider them as Spam. If the text based ads are sponsored link then text based ads are not a better idea. Some SEO are of the view that if there is no keyword in the link nothing can be done for reputation. It is also possible to detect reputation from site where the banner is.

  • Number 8: We consider A as the site that we are trying to promote. The best strategy is to create various information sites with relevant content on the different IP C-blocks in order to “take the fall”. If you follow this strategy then site A will receive links from links from other sites like site B, C and D. The sites B, C and D participate in the different linking activities with the purpose of creating Page Rank. This might be considered spam. Junkier information sites will make the chance of site A getting more hit.

  • Number 9: You can also build a site naturally. The best way is to create excellent content. It is an easy way to promote a site that is informative but is not ideal for commercial site. However it is pretty time-taking affair.

  • Number 10: It is a combination of all the above strategies. However, Google can punish a site for any of the strategy and may not be aware of the strategy.

Is there any other strategy of link building?

You can use interactive gimmicks and unique tools as link building. You can offer content which can be used by other sites. You can use free link back to your own site. For instance, if one of the sites is based on gambling industry and if I come across sites asking for calculator tool for my site. These are done by flash and they look for back links. This has to be something that would be beneficial to other sites but cannot be conveniently replicated.
